  1. Hey Tom,

I just discovered your “Taking Flight” podcast this weekend when it was mentioned on the Fire & Water Podcast. I listened to the first episode and, well, many hours later, I’m all caught up. Great stuff!

Like you, I got into Batman comics right around the time Tim Drake was being introduced. My first issue, in fact, was DETECTIVE COMICS #617, just before the “Rite of Passage” four-parter where Tim’s mom died. (Speaking of that, did the Obeah Man’s son, Pierre, ever come back after this story? I would think he has the perfect origin for becoming Tim Drake’s nemesis.)

During the marathon listening of episodes, I found it strange that you played so many musical interludes, with such long chunks of the songs. However, as I continued to listen, I grew more fascinated that your taste in music it seems is very similar to mine. I love me some Billy Joel and Gaslight Anthem, to say nothing of Springsteen’s “Growing Up” and the Cars’ “Since You’re Gone” being some of my favorite songs.

Anyway, I just wanted to say keep up the terrific work on the podcast. It’s great revisiting some of these now classic Batman stories that I read in my youth, as well as getting my first glimpse into the Teen Titans books that I never read. Your show is great, and I can’t wait till the next episode!

PS: Norm Breyfogle is the Man! As great as Jim Aparo and Neil Adams were–and they are legendary–Breyfogle was MY Batman artist.
